DONEGAL & SLIEVE LEAGUE CLIFFS TOUR
We depart Dublin for the northwest of Ireland. En route to Donegal town, we pause at Longford Town (McDonalds) for a brief coffee & restroom break.
We then pass on northwestwards over the Shannon River (longest river in the British Isles) via Carrick-on-Shannon to Sligo city. Passing northwards from Sligo city, we continue through Yeats Country (the area where the famous Irish poet William Buyler Yeats lived) past the towering domination of the icon Ben Nulben Mountain. We then arrive at Creevykeel in north Sligo to visit the Creevykeel Court Tomb. This Ireland’s most intact example of a neolithic burial place dating from 4000BC to 2500BC, an icon of great archaeological significance.
We continue on to Donegal town where we break for one hour. This an opportunity to purchase your food for lunch at some of the several convenience stores in the town. Then we travel west, along the south facing shore of Donegal Bay, passing Killybegs, St. John’s Point and other really panoramic viewing spots on our way to Slieve League Cliffs. We eventually arrive at this desolate and breath-taking series of cliffs. Slieve league is the scene of Europe’s highest sea cliffs, which stand at 601 metres. The journey to the top requires a walk of perhaps 30+ minutes, but your endurance will be rewarded when you see the view! Please ensure that bring your camera.
After this we return to Donegal town and head east across the border into Northern Ireland. We break again at Enniskillen, an historic and architecturally significant town on the south shore of the beautiful Lough Erne. We then continue onwards through Co. Cavan and return to Dublin. A long day out, but you’ll have seen so much along the way, you’ll be pleased!
We arrive at Dublin city centre.
